The discounter on Rathausstraße — right next to EDEKA and Rossmann. Low prices for daily needs, no meat counter but a broad standard range. Especially handy: the only shop in Glücksburg open until 9 pm — perfect for an evening shop after a long beach day or a late arrival.

Bäcker Thaysen – Glücksburg branch

Bäcker Thaysen from Grundhof is the traditional bakery of the Angeln region — rooted here for over a hundred years, with branches from Flensburg to Gelting. The Glücksburg branch is the closest from Bockholm. Hand-baked breads, rolls, wholegrain specialities and pastries. Pop out early and come back with fresh rolls — a classic holiday morning.

Bäcker Thaysen – Langballig branch

If you take the morning detour to Langballigau (well worth it anyway — pretty harbour, fish stand), you can pick up fresh rolls at the Thaysen branch in Langballig on the way. The Grundhof wholegrain bakery runs its full wholegrain range under the Thaysen roof — particularly good for a healthy breakfast.

EDEKA in-store bakery – Glücksburg

Inside EDEKA Matthiessen there is an integrated bakery with fresh rolls, cakes and sweet pastries — also on Sundays. The most practical option when you’re shopping anyway: rolls fresh from the oven straight into the trolley. Also enjoyable with a coffee from the in-store café.

Fish off the cutter – Langballigau harbour

The original: fresh-caught fish straight off the cutter in the small harbour of Langballigau. Fishermen Christopher Lehuniak and Michael Grünhoff sell their catch from cutter LAN 23 — turbot, flounder, plaice, dab and cod. Fisherman Harald Lehuniak from cutter Odin (LAN 3 FF) also offers flounder, plaice, dab and cod. Sales start when they come in; times depend on the weather. Not there? Ask at the Odinfischer Bistro right at the jetty — they also sell smoked fish and you can pre-order for the next days.

Odinfischer Bistro & smoked fish – Langballigau

Right at the jetty next to the Odin cutter is the Odinfischer Bistro — alongside fresh and smoked fish there are fish rolls to take away, beach chairs to sit in and a view of the small harbour with its leisure sailors. Even when no cutter has just come in, it’s worth a stop: the smoked fish range is broad and guests rave about it.

Biohof Svensteen – Munkbrarup

The closest farm shop to Villa Boreal: Biohof Svensteen sits just ~3 km away in Munkbrarup and is open daily from 8:30 am to 7 pm — including Sundays. Around 150 cattle live on the farm to Bioland standards. The farm shop has the farm’s own organic potatoes, meat and sausages from the Angeln saddleback pig and Bioland fattening pigs, eggs, vegetables and dairy. From May to September there’s also an open-air self-service café on the farm.

Hofladen Jessen-Oxbüll – Wees

Hof Jessen-Oxbüll in Wees is one of the best-known direct sellers in the region — supplying the Strandhotel Glücksburg, Restaurant Felix and several Flensburg restaurants with free-range poultry and eggs. The farm shop sells poultry, eggs and seasonal produce. Particularly known for the exceptional quality of the eggs — a fixture in the region’s best kitchens.

EDEKA Hartwig & Senol – Langballig

The full-range EDEKA in Langballig — handy when you’re combining the trip to Langballigau for the fish cutter anyway. Stocks local produce of the region (including Svensteen items) and is a good alternative if you want to do some shopping on the way back without driving back to Glücksburg.

Flensburg weekly market – Südermarkt

On Wednesdays and Saturdays Flensburg’s Südermarkt hosts one of the loveliest weekly markets in the region — direct from producers in the Angeln countryside: microgreens from Microgreens Ostsee (Glücksburg), WikingerGold honey from Langballig, vegetables, fruit, flowers, cheese, meat and fish. The coffee van at Nordermarkt is also there from 7:30 am on market days.

Pharmacy – Glücksburg Rathausstraße

The pharmacy on Glücksburg’s Rathausstraße is right in the shopping centre next to EDEKA and Rossmann. For medicines, dressings, special sun protection and medical advice. Out-of-hours emergencies: 116 117 (medical on-call service) or the nearest emergency room in Flensburg (~19 km).

Petrol stations – Glücksburg & Langballig

Petrol station in Glücksburg: right in the centre on Rathausstraße — petrol, diesel and a small shop range for quick needs. A second station is in Langballig on the way to the fish cutter. Tip: it’s cheaper to fill up in Denmark (Kollund/Rønshoved, ~20 km) — worth it for larger amounts as Danish fuel prices are often well below the German level.
