Getting to Villa Boreal — Berglyk 8, Bockholm

Bockholm lies a little hidden — that is part of its charm. The last few kilometres lead through gentle hills and along the fjord. To make sure you arrive without stress, here are all the practical routes to Villa Boreal: by car, train, plane or motorbike.

    01 · 🚗

    By car

The easiest way — and usually the best choice, because you stay flexible on site (for beaches, day trips to Denmark, farm shops). Two outdoor parking spots are directly at the house, one of them with a wallbox for EVs.

    From Hamburg

A7 towards Flensburg → exit Flensburg → B199 towards Glücksburg → on to Bockholm

    ~2 h

    From Berlin

    A24 → A20 → A7 towards Flensburg → B199 → Glücksburg → Bockholm

    ~4 h

    From Copenhagen / DK

    E45 southbound → border crossing Krusaa / Kupfermühle → Flensburg → B199 → Glücksburg

    ~1.5 h from border

Parking: 2 outdoor spots directly at the house — no searching, no ticket.

    • ·

EV charging: one spot with an 11 kW wallbox — please bring your own cable.

    💡 Tip

Arriving on a Saturday in July or August? Avoid the A7 Elbtunnel on Friday afternoon — traffic jams are very likely. Either drive early (before 9 am) or late in the evening.

    02 · 🚆

    By train

Comfortable, climate-friendly and with a direct ICE/IC connection from Hamburg, Berlin and Cologne to Flensburg. The last few kilometres from Flensburg to Bockholm can easily be covered by bus, taxi or rental car.

    1. 01

ICE or IC to Flensburg main station — from Hamburg ~1 h 15 min, from Berlin ~3 h 45 min, from Cologne ~5 h.

    2. 02

From Flensburg Hbf continue by bus line 1 towards Glücksburg (~30 min) or by taxi directly to Bockholm (~25 min, ~30 €).

    3. 03

Alternative: rent a car directly at Flensburg station (Sixt, Europcar, Hertz) — useful if you want to explore the area (beaches, Denmark, Schlei).

    💡 Tip

With a BahnCard 25 or 50 the train is also a good deal price-wise — the Hamburg–Flensburg route is regularly available as a Sparpreis from €19.90 if you book early.

    03 · ✈️

    By plane

For international guests, Hamburg or Copenhagen is the best entry point. Both airports are about 1.5 hours away by rental car — Copenhagen is often cheaper for connections from Scandinavia, the UK and the US.

    Hamburg (HAM)

Largest airport in the region. Rental cars directly at the terminal — A7 northbound to Flensburg.

    130 km · ~1.5 h

    Copenhagen (CPH)

Excellent international connections. By rental car via E45 / E20 and the Great Belt Bridge southbound — often cheaper tickets than HAM.

    120 km · ~1.5 h

    Flensburg-Schäferhaus

Very small airfield, charter and private flights only. Irrelevant for most guests.

    10 km · ~15 min

We recommend renting a car at either airport — public transport from HAM/CPH to Glücksburg is possible, but with ~4 h travel time and several changes it is not very convenient.

    04 · 🏍️

    By motorbike or motorhome

Schleswig-Holstein is one of the most beautiful motorbike regions in Germany — the route along the fjord has it all: long curves, sea views and very little traffic outside high season.

    • ·

Motorbike tip: instead of the motorway, take coastal road B76 from Kiel via Eckernförde, Kappeln and Glücksburg — one of the most beautiful motorbike routes in northern Germany.

    • ·

Motorhome: there is no motorhome pitch at the villa itself. The nearest official pitch is 2 km away at Glücksburg harbour (Stellplatz Glücksburg, open year-round).

    💡 Tip

Motorcyclists often ask for dry parking — just mention it when you book and we'll find a solution (carport or covered area).
