Glücksburg with a guide: film location tour, town walk and promenade stroll

You can of course walk Glücksburg on your own — promenade, castle, spa park, done. But you will hear far more stories by joining a tour: the resort has a surprisingly dense programme of guided walks, from the classic town tour to a tour of filming locations for well-known TV series, led by an actor. For guests of Villa Boreal every meeting point is minutes away.

Film City Glücksburg — filming locations with an actor

Few visitors realise how often Glücksburg serves as a film set. That is exactly the premise of the “Filmstadt Glücksburg” tour: actor Mathias Harrebye-Brandt — known across Germany from the ZDF series “Mordsschwestern” and “Dr. Nice”, and a former schoolboy in Flensburg — leads the way to original locations, explains the sets and shares anecdotes straight from the shoot.

The meeting point is the seaside promenade in Sandwig in front of Pier 54; the tour takes an afternoon and ends with a small farewell bite by the fjord. Groups are deliberately small, so registration in advance is required. Tickets are available at the tourist information office; dates and prices vary by season, and private group tours can be arranged.

    The town walk

The classic town tour explains how a ducal seat became a Baltic seaside resort: castle, church, spa house, the villas of resort architecture and the stories in between. For a first day in Glücksburg it is the most sensible two hours you can invest — afterwards you read the town differently. And as they say here: there is no bad weather, only inadequate clothing — the tours run in rain, too.

    Promenade stroll

The promenade stroll focuses on the shoreline between Sandwig and the spa park: resort architecture, beach chairs, views across to the Danish side of the fjord. A calm format that works well with a pushchair and combines nicely with a coffee on the promenade.

Glücksburg Castle — on your own or guided

The moated castle, built on an artificial lake in 1587, is considered a cradle of several European royal houses. Alongside the self-guided route through the rooms there are themed and group tours plus a changing programme of events in the courtyard. Combine the tour with a walk through the Schlosswald and you have a full half-day. schloss-gluecksburg.de

    Registration, meeting points, prices

The central contact for all tours is Glücksburg tourist information, Schinderdam 5, 24960 Glücksburg. Tickets, dates and brochures are available there, and booking online is possible too. Dates, prices and minimum group sizes change seasonally — please check shortly before your visit. gluecksburg-urlaub.de

    Prefer to go it alone?

Even without a guide it pays to have a route: the dolmen trail in the Friedeholz, the farm shop loop by bike, or the shoreline around Holnis. If you want the background, you will find it in our pieces on the history of Glücksburg and the culture of the fjord.

    Conclusion

A guided tour is the fastest way to turn a pretty seaside resort into a place full of stories — and the film location tour is a format you will hardly find twice. If you are planning your stay: Villa Boreal is minutes from every meeting point, and enquiries for the season from Q2 2026 are welcome at any time.
