Today Husum is anything but grey: colourful gabled houses around the inner harbour, one of Northern Germany's prettiest pedestrian zones, the legendary crocus bloom in the castle park and fresh fish rolls straight from the cutter. From Villa Boreal it's around 1.5 hours via the A7 — perfect for a varied day trip. WHY HUSUM? ## Harbour, history and North Sea air Husum is the secret capital of North Frisia: harbour town, market town, Storm town. The inner harbour right in the old town is unique — fishing cutters and sailing boats moored directly between the cafés. Add to that a surprisingly strong shopping scene with real hidden champions like the family-owned department store CJ Schmidt. Tip: in spring (mid-March to early April) the castle park turns into a violet sea of flowers — Husum's crocus bloom with over 4 million blossoms is one of Northern Germany's most impressive natural spectacles. The whole day is walkable — central parking at Schiffbrücken or at Husumhus. In clear weather, a short stop at the Schobüll viewpoint with first views of the Wadden Sea is worth it.
